Thomas, meanwhile and erstwhile, goes through a series of, um, interesting situations involving his pet shop, a gruff taxi-sharing stranger, unexpected tickets to the opera and smuggled eggs of a rare bird. Multiple story lines unfold in a splendid tangle of cutbacks, forward and backward references and recurring themes, all woven around the Exotica, its customers and employees. A calm roller-coaster ride of a movie, visually and intriguingly and emotionally moving. O, and the sound track is notable, too.

In the scattered narrative of The New Life, men and women are for sale, apparently to be used as prostitutes, at a housing project somewhere in Eastern Europe. Melania is bought by a pimp, Boyan, who brings her into a room and torments her, painfully cutting off her hair with a pocketknife before forcefully kissing her. Seymour, an American, goes to a strip club and watches some dancers. He is immediately attracted to Melania, and pays to have some private time with her. Once they're alone, he hesitates, uncertain of himself, before lust overcomes him and he pounces on Melania. It's over in a moment. She dresses quickly and leaves, while he lays on the bed, moaning in despair. Melania next services a sadistic man whose instructions she can't seem to follow properly. He humiliates her, beats her, and then sings her a song. Seymour becomes obsessed with Melania. He watches her sing in a nightclub. He pays to spend more time with her, and then tries to buy her outright, against the advice of his troubled friend, Roscoe. Seymour fantasizes about taking Melania away, but Boyan is determined to keep her. He makes her dance for him, spinning like a top. Roscoe winds up being chased through the woods and attacked by dogs.

Twice Born (tựa gốc Venuto al mondo) của đạo diễn người Ý Sergio Castellitto là một trong những tác phẩm xuất sắc trong năm 2012 của điện ảnh Châu Âu.

Những hoài niệm về tình yêu dang dở trong quá khứ hay những nỗi đau chia ly, sự thống khổ tột cùng mà số phận đưa đẩy đều khiến người ta ám ảnh, day dứt mãi không nguôi. Khi cả ba điều trên hòa quyện lại với nhau, phải có một sức mạnh vô bờ bến nào đó mới có thể vực dậy con người ta.

Những nhân vật trong Twice Born cũng vậy. Vượt qua bao biến cố của chiến tranh, bao thử thách về tình bạn, tình yêu, khó khăn trong cuộc sống, họ vẫn đứng lên bước tiếp trên đường đời. Và đến một thời điểm, số phận lại mỉm cười với họ, cũng như họ mỉm cười với nhau trong lần tái ngộ.
Lấy bối cảnh vào thời kỳ chiến tranh tại Bosnia hồi đầu thập niên 90, bộ phim mô tả tình yêu của những người trẻ tuổi nhưng không đi theo lối mòn xưa cũ. Tình yêu, tình bạn của họ bị bi kịch hóa bởi thời thế, số phận và sự phức tạp trong các mối quan hệ.

Twice Born được dựa trên cuốn tiểu thuyết nổi tiếng Venuto al mondo của nữ nhà văn Margaret Mazzantini và được thực hiện bởi chính chồng bà – đạo diễn Sergio Castellitto. Phải chăng vì vợ chồng quá đỗi hiểu nhau nên Sergio Castellitto phát triển và mô tả tâm lý nhân vật trong phim rất tốt. Câu chuyện diễn ra tương đối phức tạp, đi qua nhiều cung bậc cảm xúc khác nhau. Tình yêu có, tình bạn chân thành có, niềm vui và hạnh phúc có, nỗi buồn và cay đắng, bi thương và nghiệt ngã cũng có. Tất cả được giải tỏa qua cái kết được giấu kín, mang lại sự bất ngờ cho khán giả. Inspired by a true story, LIKE THE WIND narrates 15 years of Armida Miserere's life, a woman who with determination and grit, but also personal suffering, was one of the first woman to become governor of prison. Armida Miserere, after suffering the loss of her loved one, found herself on the front line in the fight against crime, governing the most dangerous jail in Italy, while struggling to find the truth and to get justice. The film is conceived as long flashback that highlights the most important moments of her life in the attempt to unveil her mystery.

Lodi, 1989: Armida Miserere is one of the first women to become a prison warden; Umberto Mormile is an educator at the penitentiary in Milan. They share a house midway between the two cities. One spring day, Umberto is killed on his way to work, and Armida’s life falls apart. Now that she has nothing to lose, she chooses to work on the front line at the most dangerous facilities. She never bows to pressure and applies the laws, while doing her best to remain human and keep looking for love. Milan, 2001: Armida learns the truth: Umberto was killed for refusing to be bribed by the underworld. His name is dragged through the mud by police collaborators, and it’s all too much for her.
