But after closer examination I found out its indeed not without its own problems. The problems partially persist in EbP encode and because its Disney, we cant expect better release, so I decided to do my own encode. Problems with source: - Banding in ranges 1285-1335 and 65285-66091. - Occasional blocking in certain darker colours (probably not visible on most calibrated displays). Problems with EbP encode: - Banding isnt removed, its more pronounced due to lower bitrate than needed, also banding in the intro. - Blocking was attempted to be fixed using xc3lls GradFun2DBmod+GrainFactory applied to darker colours. I dont like the result of it because it added grain that doesnt look good and in my opinion it even pronounces the blocking more. Plus it added damaged grain to flat dark areas where there were no problems. - The source has many fine details and fine grain that needs higher bitrate to be preserved. Despite raising the bitrate in EbP from 12 to 14 Mbps, there is still visible loss of details and too much pixel shifting to my liking. Also more bitrate is needed to prevent the banding/blocking from re-appearing. My attempt to fix the problems: - Banding removed with f3kdb and prevented from re-appearing using zones. - Blocking in certain darker areas diminished without adding ugly looking grain and pronouncing it even more, I used xc3lls function modified to apply GradFun3(thr=0.45) to problematic colour range. - Full avisynth script is here: http://pastebin.com/fqgH589b (thx 9mm for cooperation) - Higher bitrate and better x264 settings to preserve as much details as possible and prevent re-appearing of the problems (and still save 31% of bitrate). - More subtitles, named chapters.
