Yessongs is the first live album from the English progressive rock band Yes, released on Atlantic Records. It reached number 7 on the UK Albums Chart and number 12 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. The album was certified gold in 1973 and platinum in 1998 by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album is formed of recordings from their supporting world tours for their studio albums, Fragile and Close to the Edge, between February and December 1972. A concert film of the same name was released in 1975 that documents the band’s performances at London’s Rainbow Theatre on 15 and 16 December 1972.

Music from Big Pink is the debut studio album by legendary group The Band. It was released in 1968, and the title refers to "Big Pink", a house shared by Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, and Garth Hudson where some of the music for the album was composed. Al Kooper of Rolling Stone gave the album a rave review, and the album also gained attention due to the fact that Bob Dylan co-wrote three songs (as well as illustrating the cover art himself). In the years since its release, Music from Big Pink has been praised by many; Roger Waters has called it the second "most influential record in the history of rock and roll" after Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and that it "affected Pink Floyd deeply, deeply, deeply". The album was ranked #34 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

What we call Gregorian chant is old music. By the 13th century most of it was already composed. It is the church's oldest musical treasure, and is the word of God spoken, and prayers prayed, in a language where the word is lifted and born on wings of exquisite beauty. It is not just a language of words, but a meeting of words and melody in an expression of extraordinary power. Gregorian chant developed over a long period of oral transmission from generation to generation. If there is an evolutionary theory for artistic expression, a sort of "survival of the fittest", it can certainly be used about Gregorian chant. Many of these melodies are so unbelievably beautiful; it is as if we sense divine participation in their creation. There is an air of mysticism in this music, which more and more people are seeking as a setting for meditation and prayer.

The inspired bringing together of Jan Garbarek and the Hilliard Ensemble has resulted in consistently inventive music making since 1993. The unprecedented “Officium” album, with Garbarek’s saxophone as a free-ranging ‘fifth voice’ with the Ensemble, gave the first indications of the musical scope and emotional power of this combination. “Mnemosyne” (1998) took the story further, expanding the repertoire beyond ‘early music’ to embrace works both ancient and modern.

Now, after another decade of shared experiences, comes “Officium Novum”, the third album from Garbarek/Hilliard, recorded, like its distinguished predecessors, in the St Gerold monastery. A central focus this time is music of Armenia based on the adaptations of Komitas Vardapet, pieces which draw upon both medieval sacred music and the bardic tradition of the Caucasus. The Hilliards have studied these pieces in the course of their visits to Armenia, and the modes of the music encourage some of Garbarek’s most impassioned playing. Alongside the Armenian pieces in the “Officium Novum” repertoire: Arvo Pärt’s “Most Holy Mother of God” in an a cappella reading , Byzantine chant, two pieces by Jan Garbarek, including a new version of “We are the stars”, as well as the Spanish “Tres morillas”. There is also a new account of Perotin’s “Alleluia, Nativitas”: the freedom of interpretation is testimony to the way the project as a whole has grown since its introduction on ECM New Series, with the Hilliard Ensemble now very much involved in the music’s improvisational processes and implications.

In the early days of Stereo, record companies were always looking for ways to show off the capabilities of this new format. One musical genre that met with great success was instrumental pop, and especially percussive releases. Dick Schory was perhaps the greatest star of the many artists working in the percussive pop field that was so popular in the late '50s. After getting his recording start on the Bel Canto label, he soon after signed with RCA - and, as they say, the rest is history. His smash hit album, "Music for Bang, Baa-room and Harp," is to this day is an audiophile staple, considered by many to be one of the greatest recordings of all time. Performed in the great, pre-"improvement" Orchestra Hall in Chicago, this disc stands to this day as one of the greatest percussion "show off" discs ever made. Schory's second release, the less known "Music to Break any Mood Percussion! From Melody to Madness," was also recorded in the same hall by famed RCA staff engineer Lewis Layton, but never reached the heights of popularity enjoyed by "Bang, Baroom." However, "Music to Break Any Mood" proved to be another audiophile showcase in its own right. Never released on CD, the original vinyl and even rarer reel to reel are still much sought after by audiophiles in the know.

David Carroll, a famous bandleader in the 1950's and 1960's, also jumped on the percussive pop bandwagon, and released several titles including his greatest hit, "Percussion in Hi-Fi" which was recorded on June 4, 1956, and released by Mercury a few years later. Engineered by Bill Putnam of Universal Recording Corp., this recording is simply incredible - and in many ways surpasses "Music for Bang, Baa-room and Harp." You'll be amazed that a recording that's over 55 years old sounds this good, and it makes us all wonder what's really been gained in the ensuing half century of so-called "progress!" Interestingly, Dick Schory was a guest performer on "Percussion in Hi-Fi," which, musically speaking, may be considered as perhaps a bit more "serious" than the RCA release. Sit back and let us bring you back to the late 1950s - considered by many to be the golden age of stereo - and enjoy!

Featured on drums is Joe Morello of Dave Brubeck fame, and top percussionists Bobby Christian and Gary Burton with some very tasty vibes work. Robert Wessberg is outstanding on tubaphone (a soft marimba-like instrument). Wessberg, incidentally, is the Schory band's number one percussionist on tour and a master of all percussion instruments. The orchestra is sizable with full brass and woodwind sections and everybody doubling like mad.
