    Fasolis - Steffani. Stabat Mater (2013) [Decca] {24-96}

    View attachment 198794

    FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Front Cover | 1.5 GB | 5% recovery info
    Genre: Classical | Official Digital Download - Source: HDtracks | Decca | 2013
    Composer: Agostino Steffani
    Performer: Salvatore Vitale, Cecilia Bartoli, Daniel Behle, Franco Fagioli, ...
    Conductor: Diego Fasolis
    Orchestra/Ensemble: Swiss Radio Chorus, I Barocchisti

    Cecilia Bartoli’s exploration of the music of Steffani continues on from her best-selling recording ‘Mission’ with an album of the celebrated Stabat Mater alongside Steffani’s greatest sacred works for chorus, orchestra and soloists, constituting the most comprehensive collection of Steffani’s sacred choral music on CD. Bartoli leads an array of internationally celebrated singers including countertenor Franco Fagioli, the bass Salvo Vitale and the two young German tenors Daniel Behle and Julian Prégardien. Diego Fasolis conducts the authentic instrument forces of I Barocchisti and the chorus of RSI Lugano

    Steffani’s Stabat Mater is his masterpiece, completed shortly before he died in 1728. It has been described as the most powerful expression of his religious fervour and, at almost half an hour, the largest-scale, most complex and heartfelt of his compositions outside his operas. The opening solo “Stabat Mater dolorosa” featured on the ‘Mission’ DVD.

    The album is completed by six world premiere recordings of the best of Steffani’s remaining sacred music, including Sperate in Deo and Laudate Pueri. These are scored for orchestra, chorus and soloists featuring two young baroque-specialist sopranos Nuria Rial and Yetzabel Arias Fernandez alongside Behle, Pregardien and Vitale.

    Also amongst these world premieres is Non plus me Ligate, a seven-minute solo motet for Cecilia Bartoli.

    Gerhaher-Huber - Schubert. Lieder (2014) [Sony] {24-44}

    View attachment 199133

    FLAC (tracks) 24-bit/44,1 kHz | Time - 76:53 minutes | 707 MB | 10% recovery info
    Studio Master, Official Digital Download | Artwork: Digital booklet | Sony classical | 2014
    Christian Gerhaher - baritone
    Gerold Huber - piano

    Christian Gerhaher's exemplary lied interpretations with Gerold Huber set standards – their recordings have repeatedly been highly acclaimed. The lied duo appears on the stages of major international recital venues, for instance at the Wigmore Hall in London, in the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Cologne and Berlin Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus and the Musikverein in Vienna. This album is a great introduction to the deeply absorbing world of Schubert's songs. It features a very personal collection of Schubert songs chosen by Christian Gerhaher, who has performed these songs for many years and has a profound connection to them. The album includes a detailed booklet text with a separate paragraph detailing each song.

    Nachtviolen is the title of a text by Schubert's frequent collaborator Johann Mayrhofer, here translated with the flowers' usual English name, Dame's Violets. They might also be called night violets, which gives an idea of the gentle yet often somewhat dark and mysterious mood of most of the songs programmed here by German baritone Christian Gerhaher. The songs are by and large not very common ones, and Sony deserves credit for not insisting on the inclusion of one of the big Goethe hits. But what Gerhaher gets instead is unusual continuity, both within the often very complex songs he has chosen and over the course of the entire program. The partnership between Gerhaher and pianist Gerold Huber is very close in examining the ways Schubert emancipated the piano from an accompanimental role and often had it mold songs into entirely new shapes. Gerhaher's voice is deceptively smooth; listeners won't realize how deeply they've been drawn into the drama of a song and how it spills over the neat quatrains of the poetry. The entire program will haunt the mind long after hearing it, but for those who have to have highlights, check out the quietly bittersweet conclusion of Abschied, D. 475 (track 4), and the wild harmonic experimentation of Totengräber-Weise, D. 869 (Gravedigger's Song, track 15). A triumphant release from a singer who has emerged at the top of the considerable heap of baritone Schubert specialists.

    Belohlávek - Dvorak Symphonies 8-9 (2014) [Decca] {24-96}

    Thêm một bản New World Symphony của Dvorak cho tuần mới :) tách từ trọn bộ symphonies và concertos của Dvorak.

    Composer: Antonín Dvorák
    Performer: Alisa Weilerstein, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Garrick Ohlsson
    Conductor: Jiri Belohlávek
    Orchestra/Ensemble: Czech Philharmonic Orchestra

    A new Dvorák symphony and concerto cycle from the multi-Gramophone-Award-winning conductor and the great Prague-based orchestra. It marks a triumphant return to the orchestra where he trained, the world leading and multi-Gramophone Award-winning maestro Jirí Bìlohlávek records Decca’s first Dvorák cycle since the 1960s. This complete symphonies and concertos set is a pinnacle of brilliant music-making, and the first major cycle to be recorded in high-definition 24bit 96kHz and Mastered for iTunes sound.

    Dvorák himself conducted the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra’s first concert in 1896, and the shared Bohemian heritage of composer, conductor and orchestra lends a very special authenticity to these recordings.

    Dvorák’s three concertos (violin, cello and piano) feature alongside his nine great Symphonies, with Decca’s leading cellist Alisa Weilerstein, Frank Peter Zimmermann (violin) and Garrick Ohlsson (piano). The Czech PO and Belohlávek will be undertaking major European tours in 2014, including a full Dvorák symphonic cycle in Prague in September. Rhombus Films have also made a fascinating documentary focusing on Belohlávek’s return to Prague as the Czech Philharmonic’s chief conductor.

    Brautigam - Beethoven Solo Piano Vol.1 (2004) [BIS] {24-88}

    Ronald Brautigam (piano)

    Having completed period-instrument recordings of the solo keyboard works of Haydn and Mozart, Ronald Brautigam has now launched himself on a Beethoven cycle. This finely recorded first volume features a copy of an early 19th-century instrument by Anton Walter, and the immediacy of its attack is apparent from the very first chord of the Pathétique Sonata. Brautigam plays the chord in curious fashion, holding it for considerably longer than its true value. Like most pianists, he also treats it as an explosive fortissimo, though Beethoven’s curious fp marking, coupled with the chord’s bottom-heavy layout, suggests he may have had something more world-weary in mind. For the rest, Brautigam gives a compellingly urgent account of the Sonata’s outer movements, conveying a vivid idea of how defiant this music must have sounded to Beethoven’s contemporaries. Brautigam’s virtuosity stands him in good stead in the strangely impersonal Op. 22 Sonata, and he finds just the right tone of intimate lyricism in the smaller-scale pair of Op. 14. Only the finale of Op. 14 No. 2 is a touch straitlaced. Stephen Kovacevich’s recording of the same four sonatas is only available these days as part of a complete boxed set, but he’s a pianist who responds more readily to the wit and quirkiness of that finale; and he finds greater warmth than Brautigam in the Adagio of the Pathétique. But this new disc augurs well for the continuation of Brautigam’s series, and anyone who prefers the music played on a fortepiano is unlikely to find it better done.

    Argerich Friends - Live in Lugano (2013) [Warner] {24-44}

    FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/44.1 kHz | Digital Booklet | 1.8 GB | 5% recovery info
    Genre: Classical | Official Digital Download - Source: Qobuz | Warner | 2013

    Baranov and the pianists Thomás Alegre, Alessandro Mazzamuto, Maria Meerovitch.
    Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven, Ottorino Respighi, Franz Liszt, Dmitri Shostakovich, ...
    Performer: Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Renaud Capuçon, Francesco Piemontesi, ...
    Conductor: Hubert Soudant
    Orchestra/Ensemble: Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana

    Reviews: Martha Argerich’s ever-widening circle of friends means that these annual compilations of music recorded live at her festival in Lugano invariably introduce us to young artists whom she regards highly and who, for that very reason, excite interest. Some (such as the violinist and cellist brothers Renaud and Gautier Capuçon) are known to a wider audience, others not.

    Here, for example, Argerich is joined by the Romanian pianist Cristina Marton for a delightful, affectionate, limpid performance of Debussy’s four-hand Petite Suite, followed by a riotous sequence of pieces from Offenbach’s Gaîté Parisienne played on three pianos by the brilliant young Italians Giorgia Tomassi, Carlo Maria Griguoli and Alessandro Stella. This alone is something to lift the spirits sky high.

    But a key ingredient of this set’s appeal is that the variety of artists is matched by a variety in the music they play. On the same disc, Ravel’s early Violin Sonata of 1897, published only posthumously in 1975, is given a rapt performance by the Russian violinist Andrey Baranov and the Russian-born pianist Jura Margulis, identifying as they do the boldness of the one-movement sonata’s approach to harmony and the way in which Ravel’s distinctive creative personality is beginning to emerge from its chrysalis. This is an interpretation truly to treasure, as indeed are the two sonatas on the second disc. Here Renaud Capuçon teams up with Francesco Piemontesi for Respighi’s gorgeous Violin Sonata of 1916-17, and Gautier Capuçon is joined by the Venezuelan-born Gabriela Montero for a deeply felt performance of Shostakovich’s D minor Cello Sonata.

    Argerich herself heads the venture in a characteristically vital, lucid, poised account of Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and, with Mischa Maisky, a deeply thought performance of Beethoven’s G minor Cello Sonata Op 5 No 2. This set is a showcase for superlative musicianship, crowned at the end by Argerich and a host of friends coming together for a Saint-Saëns Carnival of the Animals of irresistible zoomorphic wit and charm.

    Elizabeth Sombart - piano
    Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Conducted by Pierre Vallet

    Although most often associated with solo piano works, Frédéric Chopin also wrote two notoriously challenging piano concertos – and appeared as soloist at each premiere. Celebrated French pianist Elizabeth Sombart joins the London's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Chopin’s First Concerto under the baton of Pierre Vallet. Elizabeth Sombart totally unique interpretation of the two famous and only Chopin's concertos.

    Chopin created a radically new musical language for the piano that was nevertheless strongly influenced by his love of the contemporary folk music from his native country that he was exiled from for the greater part of his creative life, Poland. The unique flavour of his expression was intimately connected to the longing he felt for a world that was vastly different in make-up and feeling from anywhere today, but the power and appeal of his compositions have long outlasted the demise of their environmental origins.

    However, for the pianist and pedagogue Elizabeth Sombart, the founder of the specialised center Centre International d’Etude de la Pédagogie Résonnance (CIEPR) organised by the Fondation Résonnance, this very survival of Chopin and his particular popularity today presents a great challenge for the performer who lives in such a dissimilar ambience from the far more intimate atmosphere that Chopin evoked. Whereas of course the worlds of all the great 19th Century composers were completely different from life as it is today, for Madame Sombart the changed situation brings especially critical issues for the understanding and interpretation of Chopin’s music. The music of Chopin has been a lifelong preoccupation for Elizabeth Sombart not only as a performer but also as a pedagogue, and indeed the methodical and phenomenological teaching of piano style and technique in the works of a very wide range of composers has been a major part of her life for many years. She established the internationally operating Fondation Résonnance to give students not just a rigorous technical education but also a deep understanding of the broad-ranging expressive potential of the piano.

    Especially in the case of Chopin’s music, for Elizabeth Sombart this means instilling a profound awareness of spatial and ephemeral elements – characteristics that she feels are particularly elusive to sense and realise in today’s world. As she points out, even the most meticulous application of processes aligning thought and feeling cannot guarantee the strangely evanescent magic that is so centrally inherent in the music of Chopin but is often so unattainable in performance. Environmental conditions, always a crucial factor in any artistic recreation, are maybe even more critical for the performance of Chopin’s oeuvre than most other composers’ in this respect, and that is a fundamental reason why Elizabeth Sombart has waited so long in her distinguished career before feeling able to make studio recordings of Chopin’s two Piano Concertos. For several decades Elizabeth Sombart has been specially admired by connoisseurs as a highly idiomatic interpreter of the challengingly demanding music of Chopin, but only now has she found the ideal conditions to conjure up the composer’s ephemeral, almost dream like world while playing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the literal environment of Abbey Road studios. Those conditions have materialised through discovering the conductor Pierre Vallet and the RPO who have been ideal partners in her task, achieving the precarious balance of fleeting freedom and faultless precision that Chopin’s music requires.
