Editing of this movie sucks. The width of black&dark bars varies from scene to scene, and the locations of ugly lines differ accordingly. After frame-by-frame scan, I've managed to categorize all 45 pieces of scenes into 11 cases (list of cases here). Each case refers to different width/height of black bars and ugly lines, and is fixed seperately as possible as I can, using manual overlay with ConditionalReader (script and condition file). In one such case, both the blackbars and the ugly lines are curved, which I couldn't fix. Fortunately, it only lasts 1116 frames (<1min).Among 11, two major cases takes about 45% and 47% each of runtime. One of them is full 1080 height, the other has 2 black pixels on top. The reason I didn't crop the 2px is because 45% of time they're useful.2. The movie is shot partly in film and partly in digital. It's the director's intention to distinct the couple's life in the past and in the present. He made sure that the past story is shot on super 16mm (grainy) while the present story shot using RED digital camera(grainless and blocky). To better preserve details, I used different deblock, aq and psy for two differnt kinds of scenes. Bitrate ratio(--zones b=1.3) and qcomp is tuned, trying to make both scenes equally transaprent.
