Lấy bối cảnh đầu thế kỷ XX, bộ phim “Days of Heaven” kể về đôi tình nhân nghèo, Bill (Richard Gere) và Abby (Brooke Adams). Họ đi tới vùng Panhandle, bang Texas, Mỹ để thu hoạch cây trồng cho một phú nông (Sam Shepard). Bill thuyết phục Abby chiếm gia tài của người phú nông đang bệnh sắp chết ấy bằng cách dụ ông kết hôn với cô, để khi ông chết đi, cô sẽ hưởng trọn gia tài. Nhưng cái chết đã không đến với người chủ trang trại như đã tưởng, dẫn đến một mối tình tay ba mong manh dễ đổ vỡ. Sự ghen ghét, đố kỵ, ghen tuông và thiếu kiên nhẫn dần hình thành, những chuyện không hay dần xảy đến với họ.
