Alabama - American Pride (1992) Country | 1CD | FLAC 867kbps, LOG, no Cue, Cover | 248MB | 40:07.040min | freakshare Label: Bmg Special Product Alabama is an American country band formed in 1969 with the original name Young Country. As Alabama they enjoyed considerable success in the 1980s with a string of platinum albums and many hit singles. Young Country didn't last long, as two members of the band went off to college. They got back together as Wildcountry in 1972, and a year later they decided to become full-time musicians. By 1977 they were Alabama and had signed an ill-fated one album deal with GRT. When the label went bust after a year, it took some time for the band to buy their way out of the restrictive contract. After a self-released album, My Home's in Alabama, they found success with the single "I Wanna Come Over". The interest of the major labels was peaked and they signed to RCA Records. So began a successful recording career, with over thirty No.1 singles in the country music charts during the 80s and early 90s. Until 1999, all of their fourteen RCA albums achieved at least a platinum certification. The band announced that they would be retiring from touring after their Farewell Tour of 2003/4 but they have continued to release albums. Their most recent record was 2007's Songs of Inspiration II. – Amazon.com Tracklist: 1. Take A Little Trip 2. Hometown Honeymoon 3. Once Upon A Lifetime 4. You Can't Take The Country Out Of Me 5. While playing to a smaller, postmultiplatinum niche, they have made some of the best and most adventurous music of their two-decade career. Mind you, there's little that Alabama do that somebody somewhere doesn't do better. This is true of lead singer Randy Owen's masterful but often overly sentimental balladeering and of vocalist-guitarist Jeff Cook's frequent forays into R&B-leaning beach music, represented here by the punchy, full-blown Muscle Shoals-style horn arrangement of the original "Mist of Desire." That said, Alabama's best efforts display an earnestness, charm, and wry down-home gravitas, and there's quite a bit of their best here. The heartbroken "Write It Down in Blue" and the hopeful blue-collar testimonial "Small Stuff" are both first rate. Ditto for the title tune, which is the best goodbye to the century heard yet. --Bob Allen – Amazon.com Tracklist: 1. Twentieth Century 2. Well, folks, When It All Goes South strives mightily to be a contender, but it's such a lightweight it couldn't crawl into the ring. With the help of seven (!) producers, Randy Owen and company do sound rejuvenated, borrowing stylistic techniques from modern R&B and updating their overall approach for the millennium. But Alabama, a bar-band that went farther than it ever should have, ran out of creative juice long, long ago. And bringing in Jann Arden and Christopher Cross--rather odd-choice guests--doesn't do anything to reverse that. While the group occasionally works a decent rhythm song into the mix, their lyrics seldom rise above empty platitudes. Want proof? Here's their new take on Dixie from the title song: "Get yourself some rebel pride... One day the South's gonna rise again." To be sure, When It All Goes South is aptly named. Never a critics' favorite, the quartet from Fort Payne, Alabama, presents slick, sentimental songs that unerringly catch the ear of fans yet mystify those who don't hear the appeal. This two-CD career retrospective, which presents all 41 of the group's No. 1 hits, underlines just how successful they've been. The strengths are there: Randy Owen's clear, deep, intimate vocals; the focus on accessible melodies and musical hooks; and the straightforward song sense that plainly celebrates love, family, and home with all the simplicity of homilies stitched into a framed kitchen doily. Some might argue about Alabama's artistic value, but the band's 18-year track record offers a convincing retort. --Michael McCall – Amazon.com Tracklist: Disc 1: 1. Five O'Clock 500 2. Keepin' Up 3. Though Kenny Chesney had been building a rabid fan base over the years, no one expected his 2002 release, the multi-platinum No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problems, to make him a superstar. But the Luttrell, Tenn., native had found a batch of songs that perfectly captured that scary no-man's land between adolescence and adulthood, precisely where the bulk of his followers happened to live. On its sequel, When the Sun Goes Down, the protagonists are older, with kids on the way and hectic jobs that rob them of leisure time. In fantasizing about those college keg parties and hedonism after dark, they search for a sigh of relief. Chesney understands this, and his own changes, too. Emotionally he's more at home in his own skin, and since his voice has gotten deeper and wider, he sounds increasingly confident in the studio, besting guest artist Uncle Kracker on the title song, a warmed-over Jimmy Buffett vibe. He's also matured as a writer. The majority of his four songs, two co-written with others, are no match for "There Goes My Life," the powerful unwed father ballad that served as the album's first single, or even "When I Think About Leavin'," another tune about standing at the crossroads. But his memorable "Being Drunk's a Lot Like Loving You" will burrow deep in your psyche, and prove Chesney a fine guide to confronting pain. Better keep this one handy. --Alanna Nash – Amazon.com Tracklist: 1. (00:05:03) Kenny Chesney - There Goes My Life 2. (00:04:04) Kenny Chesney - I Go Back 3. The album is meant as a tribute to their days playing in Myrtle Beach, SC, and it comes off as their best 90's album. Of course, they would have been unable to put the album together by picking and choosing songs from Nashville songwriters, so they wrote the album themselves--except for 2 covers (My Girl and Hey Baby) and 2 songs by outside writers (Of Course I'm Alright--an outstanding ballad--and Calling All Angels). Sad Lookin' Moon, Is the Magic Still There, and Dancin, Shaggin' on the Boulevard are all outstanding, and She's Got That Look in Her Eyes is a classic. Kentucky Headhunters - Pickin' On Nashville (1989) Kentucky Headhunters - Pickin' On Nashville (1989) Country-Rock | FLAC, no CUE, LOG, HQ Scans | 234 MB EAC Rip | Label: PolyGramIt's hard to imagine now, when even Shania Twain routinely uses power chords, but the Kentucky Headhunters' first single, a piledriving, quasi-metal transformation of Bill Monroe's "Walk Softly on This Heart of Mine," was a revolutionary record for country in 1990. With its thumping drums, sheet-metal guitar, and a liquid-fuzztone lead guitar more reminiscent of Blue Cheer than bluegrass, the song sounded like nothing else on country radio. This debut album revealed the ultra-scruffy Headhunters to be a surprisingly traditional group, delving into rockabilly, western swing, and a lot of boogie-woogie. Unfortunately, most of their explorations are disposable (if not outright unlistenable; cf. "Rock & Roll Angel"). Still, besides the brilliant, album-opening first hit, there are enjoyable moments. "My Daddy Was a Milkman" is an ominous rocker with a touch of Bo Diddley and intriguing lyrics, and two covers, Don Gibson's standard "Oh Lonesome Me" and Henson Cargill's 1967 fluke social commentary "Skip a Rope," are rocked up excitingly. And "Dumas Walker" is an irresistible loping country boogie that introduced millions to the titular establishment's delectable menu: "slaw burger, fries, and a bottle of Ski" (a Kentucky knockoff of Mountain Dew). The Headhunters were musical pioneers, but inconsistent to a fault. --Ken Barnes – Amazon.com Tracklist: 1. Walk Softly On This Heart Of Mine; 2. Dumas Walker; 3. Rag Top; 4. Rock 'n' Roll Angel; 5.
