Mitchell Heller, WFMT's broadcast engineer, produced and engineered the broadcast. Remastering was done at 24 bit/96 kHz.​

Benedictine monk, prefect and official composer of the Benedictine abbey of Säben, Romanus Weichlein left several collections of sonatas and masses as well as large chaconnes, magnificent works in the tradition of his compatriots Biber, Johann Heinrich Schmelzer, Pavel Josef Vejvanovský and Georg Muffat.
In this new programme, Masques presents both ensemble pieces and others for solo or two harpsichords (the second harpsichord being played by Skip Sempé ), always featuring the expressiveness, eloquence and profound interpretation for which it is known.

This live recording of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana was made at the Southbank Centre's 2013 The Rest Is Noise Festival in London, a concert series celebrating critic Alex Ross' book The Rest Is Noise. Always a crowd-pleaser, Orff's secular cantata is full of rhythmic choruses, rollicking dances, and incantatory songs based on medieval texts, and it has become one of the most popular modern works in the choral repertoire. The performance by the London Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra, conducted by Hans Graf, is energetic and vivid, and the solos by soprano Sarah Tynan, tenor Andrew Kennedy, and baritone Rodion Pogossov are full of life and feeling. The single drawback to this recording is the sound level of the choir, which seems recessed too far behind the orchestra, which is usually much louder and more physically present than the voices. Most listeners enjoy Carmina Burana as a sonic showcase, and it really needs superior reproduction to impress. Unfortunately, the microphone placement seems inadequate to the concert setting, and the audio is uneven and only acceptable in the loudest sections, so frequent adjustments of the volume may be necessary.

Following acclaimed LSO Live recordings of Rachmaninov’s Symphony No 2 and Symphonic Dances, Valery Gergiev conducts a scintillating account of the powerfully emotional Third Symphony, framed with a work by one of the Mighty Five; Balakirev’s Russia.
Rachmaninov’s third and final symphony was composed nearly 20 years after the composer’s emigration from his homeland. Often considered to be his most overtly Russian symphony, Rachmaninov makes subtle use of a motto theme which appears throughout the work and can be heard in the finale as a variant of the Dies Irae plainchant – a melodic tag used in Rachmaninov’s music as a dark reminder of mortality.
Russia, the epic symphonic poem, is a reworking of an Overture on Russian Themes, collected during Balakirev’s expedition up through the Volga. It was composed in 1864 and is based on three folksongs – a slow wedding song and two round-dances which are varied, fragmented and combined throughout the piece.

Recorded live in concert at Dumbarton Oaks in DC, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Stravinsky’s chamber concerto at the Washington estate for which it was originally named, ‘the ground beneath our feet’ brings together radically divergent examples of the concerto grosso, by composers ranging from Bach and Haydn to those of the present day, by way of modern masters Stravinsky and Steve Reich. True to their collegial creed, The Knights’ own contribution to the form – the title track, …the ground beneath our feet, recorded here for the first time – is a genuine group composition, collaborative from inception to interpretation. Also receiving its world premiere recording is the Concerto for Santur, Violin, and Orchestra, which represents the third collaboration between longtime friends and musical partners Colin Jacobsen and Siamak Aghaei, leading exponent of the Iranian santur, or hammered dulcimer. The Knights juxtapose these two original concerto grossi with four earlier examples of the form. Representing its apotheosis in the Baroque is the Concerto for Violin and Oboe by J.S. Bach, whose third Brandenburg Concerto provided the model for Stravinsky’s neoclassical masterpiece “Dumbarton Oaks.” Steve Reich’s Duet for Two Violins and Strings is dedicated to Yehudi Menuhin and “the ideals of international understanding which he practiced throughout his life.”
