Drawing from the 1960s, the bundle features the group’s gold-certified self-titled debut; Anthem of the Sun, which is the first with drummer Mickey Hart; and Aoxomoxoa, which boasts the live staple “St. Stephen.” Music from the 1970s includes: the back-to-back platinum releases Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty; Wake Of The Flood, the first with keyboardist Keith Godchaux who replaced founding member Ron “Pigpen” McKernan; From the Mars Hotel, which features the debut of “Scarlet Begonias”; Blues For Allah with the standout track “Franklin’s Tower”; and two gold albums in a row, Terrapin Station and Shakedown Street. This 40th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition features the original recording, a second album of previously unreleased Jams, Rehearsals and Outtakes, in addition to two extra albums that feature the entire live show from Winterland in San Francisco on September 26, 1973.

When the Allman Brothers Band’s fifth album, Brothers and Sisters, was released on Capricorn Records in August 1973, the legendary southern blues-rock group had already achieved world-wide fame with their 1971 live album, At Fillmore East. This success was followed by the tragic loss of their founder, leader and musical visionary, guitarist Duane Allman, who died in a motorcycle crash on October 29, 1971. While regrouping under the leadership of singer/organist Gregg Allman and guitarist/vocalist Dickey Betts, The Allman Brothers Band soldiered on with Brothers and Sisters, which turned out to be their most successful recording to date.

To mark its 40th anniversary, the original classic recording,--which includes "Ramblin' Man", "Wasted Words", "Jessica" and "Come and Go Blues"--is re-released in re-mastered form. The four-CD set includes two discs devoted to a live performance at Winterland in San Francisco, Sept. 26, 1973, right after Brothers and Sisters’ release, featuring an introduction by Bill Graham and previously unavailable live versions of "Done Somebody Wrong", "Stormy Monday", “Midnight Rider", "Statesboro Blues", "You Don’t Love Me" (which includes "Amazing Grace”), "Les Brers in A Minor", "Blue Sky", "Trouble No More" and "Whipping Post", along with two Brothers and Sisters tracks in "Come and Go Blues" and “Jessica".

These 1957 sessions were the first Jimmy Smith did with horns after his recording debut the previous year. With the calibre of the top-rank musicians involved – Smith, the first to translate Bird’s innovations to the organ, altoist Donaldson, the blues-drenched Bird follower, and both Mobley and Byrd contributing some thoughtful blowing of their own on tenor and trumpet respectively - the overall results were rewarding.

VOL 1: After cutting five albums with his trio, organist Jimmy Smith on Feb. 11, 1957, recorded with trumpeter Donald Byrd, altoist Lou Donaldson and tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley in a sextet that also included guitarist Eddie McFadden and drummer Art Blakey. Among the five songs recorded that day, two (lengthy versions of "Falling in Love with Love" and "Funk's Oats") are included on this LP along with a shorter trio rendition of "How High the Moon" from two days later with McFadden and drummer Donald Bailey in a trio.

VOL 2: For the jam session date altoist Lou Donaldson has a duet with organist Jimmy Smith on "I'm Getting Sentimental over You," and together they match up forces in a sextet with trumpeter Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley on tenor, guitarist Eddie McFadden and drummer Art Blakey, playing lengthy versions of Mobley's "Groovy Date" and Duke Ellington's "I Let a Song Go out of My Heart." All of the Jimmy Smith jam sessions are easily recommended to fans of straightahead jazz.

One of the many consistently impressive things about Jimmy Smith is his ability to evoke different moods. „I’m Movin' On“ is no exception. Smith's trio moves from the irresistible, laid-back groove of the title track, through the cowboy lope of 'Hotel Happiness' and soul-drenched blues ballads like 'T'aint No Use' to the lush, romantic rendering of 'What Kind Of Fool Am I,' in which Smith's organ conjures soft, floating clouds of sound. The release is distinguished by the guitar work of Grant Green, whose brilliantly measured, stylish solos perfectly augment Smith's thick, intense leads.
