“Bethlehem” tells the story of the complex relationship between Razi, an Israeli Secret Service officer, and his teenage Palestinian informant Sanfur. Kịch bản phim Người Mỹ thầm lặng (The Quiet American) của tác giả Christopher Hampton dựa theo tiểu thuyết cùng tên của nhà văn Garaham Greene đã được dịch, xuất bản và phát hành tại Việt Nam. Chuyện phim xảy ra tại Sài Gòn năm 1952, trong bối cảnh Việt Nam đang tiến hành cuộc kháng chiến chống thực dân Pháp. Để đương đầu với phong trào quốc tế cộng sản đang phát triển mạnh mẽ từ sau chiến tranh thế chiến thứ hai đặc biệt là sau sự ra đời của Nhà nước Trung Hoa (1949), các thế lực quân sự và chính trị Mỹ đã câu kết với Pháp tìm mọi cách đẩy mạnh phong trào chống Cộng. Mọi chiêu bài viện trợ kinh tế thực chất là che đậy âm mưu khủng bố và thôn tính cả về chính trị lẫn quân sự của Mỹ. Các sự kiện và bầu không khí căng thẳng của Sài Gòn đã được nhà báo Anh Thomas Fowler phản ánh qua những bức ảnh và những bài viết. Thái độ của anh tuy kín đáo nhưng vẫn toát lên sự cảm thông sâu sắc đối với người dân Việt Nam - những nạn nhân của các âm mưu chính trị ngầm. Cô gái Việt Nam tên Phượng là một trong những nhân vật chính của phim được miêu tả với những tình cảm trân trọng. Cả Thomas và Pyle - người thừa hành mọi âm mưu của Mỹ tại miền Nam Việt Nam - đều si mê cô.

Năm 1958, Hollywood đã đưa tác phẩm này lên màn bạc do đạo diễn Joseph L.Mankiewicz dàn dựng nhưng thất bại vì bộ phim mang một nội dung quá khác biệt so với tác phẩm văn học. Lần này bộ phim được thực hiện với một êkíp khác - đạo diễn nổi tiếng người Úc Phillip Noyce là một trong số những đạo diễn nổi tiếng của Hollywood. Từ 1995, đạo diễn này đã nhiều lần sang Việt Nam du lịch để tìm hiểu bối cảnh cho phim. Đầu tháng 12/2000, Phillip Noyce đã trở lại Việt Nam xác định lần cuối các địa điểm quay là TP HCM, Hội An, Phát Diệm và Hà Nội.
Nhân vật Thomas Fowler do diễn viên người Anh Sir Michel Caine đóng. Anh vừa được nữ hoàng Anh phong tặng tước hiệu hiệp sĩ và hai lần nhận giải Oscar. Nhân vật Pyle do Barendan Fraset thủ vai. Anh là một gương mặt quen thuộc với khán giả Việt Nam qua vai diễn Rick O’Connel trong bộ phim Xác ướp Ai Cập.

In the countryside of England, the Duc de Richleau a.k.a Nicholas welcomes his old friend Rex Van Ryn that has flown to meet him and Simon Aron, who is the son of an old friend of them that had passed away but charged them the task of watching the youngster. Nicholas and Rex unexpectedly visit Simon that is receiving twelve mysterious friends. Sooner Nicholas, who is proficient in black magic, learns that the guests are member of a satanic cult and Simon and his friend Tanith Carlisle will be baptized by the powerful leader Mocata to serve the devil. The two friends abduct Simon and Tanith expecting to save their souls but Mocata summons the Angel of Death and the Goat of Mendes to help him in a battle between the good and the forces of evil.

Short Cut is a comedy revealed more in the acting and witty dialogue than in the simple premise of the story itself: how the Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal was born. Actually, the story is, in many ways, the writer's conception. The setting is a small town where Hrabal's father Francine (Jiri Schmitzer) is in charge of a large brewery. Both the blessing and bane of his life is his gorgeous wife Marja (Magda Vasaryova). Blessing, because she is not only beautiful but resourceful and intelligent and lively, bane because every other man would like to get to know her better. Marja saves the day more than once, and the couple are happy in their life together. When Francine's brother arrives for a visit, an attraction starts to develop between Marja and her brother-in-law that may have upset the marriage, were it not for a fortuitous accident. Marja sprains her ankle and her husband is "forced" to take care of her - alone. Soon after, the town gets their first radio and life takes a permanent turn for a faster lane. Marja cuts her long, blonde tresses and dons a short skirt which mortifies her husband, until he learns they are going to have a baby. It is 1916 and Hrabal is on the way. The comedy will one day continue as he goes from gestation to adulthood and discovers his writing talents at the age of 48. Coupled with the Czech director Jiri Menzel, Hrabal's comedic writing finds a kindred cinematic spirit. This film won a Jury Prize at the 1981 Venice Film Festival.

The World Wars
