For videophiles who demand the very best in onscreen visuals, news that the Audiovox Corporation is set to release the industry's first automotive Blu-ray Disc player will no doubt be very welcome indeed. The compact device can be connected to any in-vehicle monitor, comes with an infrared remote and also has wireless streaming capabilities. As you might expect, in addition to allowing users to choose from the 1,600 or so Blu-ray titles currently available, the player can also read from DVD and CD disc format. The unit can be horizontally or vertically mounted under the seat or hidden away inside a storage compartment and connected to any in-vehicle monitor from the unit's HDMI, composite or component output ports. It's powered from a 2-pin, 12-volt connector to the vehicle's accessory power source and the disc slot is illuminated by a blue accent light. There's an infrared remote control with an extension included, for when the device is hidden away. The player is also Wi-Fi capable to cater for wireless media streaming. The AVDBR1 Blu-ray player carries a suggested retail price of US$349.99, with a Q2 availability window. Product details will appear on the company's mobile product site nearer to release time. The device comes in both standard and high definition varieties, and is made up of a wireless USB antenna that's connected to a laptop or computer and a receiver box that's hooked up to an HDTV. The system is said to be capable of wirelessly playing any content from one to the other, whether it's online movies, sports or news updates, digital photos or holiday videos. Veebeam is described by its creators as being content agnostic, meaning that it will wirelessly stream anything from your laptop or computer to your TV. Rather than use a set-top box or bottlenecking an already overworked wireless home network, the Veebeam system creates a point-to-point, 150Mb/s wireless connection between the USB Antenna and the receiver unit. Not quite the potential offered by aWireless-N connection, but at least this one promises constant rate. The receiver is of course plugged into the television and incorporates ST Microelectronics' advanced HD decoding IC running Wyplay's embedded digital media renderer software. Users can choose between the screencasting mode, that offers the best experience for viewing photos or websites, and the higher-quality Play-To mode, which allows for multi-tasking as well as benefiting from the highest video output. There are two varieties on offer – the Veebeam SD edition costs US$99 and has an output resolution of 480i and Dolby Digital audio, and the Veebeam HD variety at US$139, which has the same composite A/V outputs as its sibling but also includes full 1080p resolution output via HDMI port, optical audio output and a couple of USB ports. Check out our earlier gallery if you're not familiar with the new look, it should be identical across the lineup (sans-Move support of course) with recommendations, enhanced sharing options and optimized for HD. That's basically what you get with the A580, a successor to the A550 and doing basically everything the A560 does -- but with a 16.2 megapixel sensor. So it sports 1080i recording, a 3-inch tilting LCD, and 7fps burst shooting, but can't match the continuous autofocus of the funky A55 and its mystical, magical, translucent mirror andoverheating sensor. It's not every day you hear of a 1.5GHz quad-core mobile SOC, but our discovery of corroborating evidence for the T25 module sitting alongside it makes us more willing to credit the possibility of a Blu-ray-crunching, 13,800 MIPS-capable, multicore Cortex-A9 Tegra 3. Moreover, the roadmap of production samples in Q4 of 2010 fits perfectly with NVIDIA's claim that Tegra 3 was "almost done" in September of that year. The ULP designation on this listing stands for Ultra Low Power in NVIDIA parlance, which would indicate an aggressively tuned power management system -- the only way we can envision a quad-core anything operating within a tablet. It's the HC70, a new version with a 70-inch transparent screen that can be viewed from both sides. It's powered by a Windows 7 Embedded machine with 40GB of flash storage from which it can loop between eight and 18 hours of video, displayed via 1080p projector.
