ABOUT THE FILM

A Primitive Entertaiment production in co-production with the National Film Board of Canada "WATERLIFE"
Produced with the participation of Telefilm Canada, in association with Big Picture Media Corporation, NHK, Sundance Channel and Shaw Media. Produced with the assistance of the Shaw Media Hot Docs Fund.

WATERLIFE follows the epic cascade of the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. From the icy cliffs of Lake Superior to the ornate fountains of Chicago to the sewers of Windsor, this feature-length documentary tells the story of the last huge supply (20 per cent) of fresh water on Earth.

The source of drinking water, fish and emotional sustenance for 35 million people, the Great Lakes are under assault by toxins, sewage, invasive species, dropping water levels and profound apathy. Some scientists believe the lakes are on the verge of ecological collapse. Filled with fascinating characters and stunning imagery, WATERLIFE is an epic cinematic poem about the beauty of water and the dangers of taking it for granted. The film is narrated by The Tragically Hip’s Gord Downie and features music by Sam Roberts, Sufjan Stevens, Sigur Ros, Robbie Robertson and Brian Eno.

Penguin Island: The Falklands

Only 100 years ago, an estimated 600,000 orangutans roamed the Borneo and Sumatran rainforests. Now they’re one of the most endangered species in the world due to poaching, habitat destruction and the illegal pet trade. There is hope.

An extraordinary and dedicated team of international vets, scientists and volunteers have joined forces with locals to build and run the rehabilitation centre. Their aim – to rescue and rehabilitate injured and orphaned orangutans and release them back into the wild. Orangutan Rescue: Back to the Wild, a one-off special gives you privileged access to International Animal Rescue’s orangutan rehab centre in West Kalimantan in Borneo, Indonesia. Led by 36 year old Spanish vet Karmele Llano Sanchez, follow the work of the team and the progress of the orphaned orangutans, as they learn the skills necessary to survive in the wild.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Roger Horrocks and Walter Bernardis set out on a mission many people believe to be suicidal. Their plan is to dive in the Okavango delta with over twenty feeding crocodiles. Roger often relies on his experiences in Central America where he joined local crocodile "callers" who entice wild crocodiles from the water with small pieces of meat. The food almost seems to calm the animals down. The feast has a spectacular end with a massive 4 meter crocodile towing Walter across the river and away from the hungry circle of giant reptile.
